Many of you have asked about the Truth Tellers Apparel name choice for my clothing brand. As you have probably already realized, Truth and scripture are of utmost importance to me and my heart. My introductory blog post speaks about the transformative power of scripture and how it has personally been a foundational pillar for me in both business and life.
While recently homeschooling my oldest son and studying the early church, the words of Martin Luther jumped off the page and into my heart. His famous quote "Peace if Possible, Truth at all Costs" inspired one of my very first faith-inspired Christian t-shirt designs.
As a believer navigating the complexities of faith and life, I have since been continually challenged and reminded of the profound wisdom of this quote. Such powerful words with an against-the-grain, counter-culture message. It's served as a faithful reminder to my heart. In life it is more important to share truth above all else; no matter the cost, circumstance or possible repercussions.
However, in Matthew 5:9, Jesus declares, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." As Christian women, we also understand the importance of pursuing peace in our relationships, communities, and the world around us. Yet, Martin Luther's quote challenges us to consider the source of true peace—the unwavering foundation of God's truth. At face value these two can be thought of as contradictory to one another yet, in reality they are actually complementary. Peace is rooted in Truth, real peace cannot exist without Truth.
In John 14:27, Jesus promises, "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Here, we see once again that the peace Jesus offers is not dependent on external circumstances but rooted in the unchanging truth of His word.
Martin Luther, a bold reformer and staunch advocate for biblical truth, understood the importance of upholding truth at all costs. His unwavering commitment to the authority of scripture, even in the face of opposition and persecution, serves as a powerful example for us today.
In John 8:32, Jesus declares, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." As believing women seeking to live lives of purpose and integrity, we must stand firm in the truth of God's word, even when it requires courage and sacrifice.
So how do we apply Martin Luther's quote to our daily lives? It begins with a deepening of our relationship with God through prayer, study of Scripture, and fellowship with other believers. As we grow in our understanding of God's truth, we can confidently navigate life's challenges with wisdom and discernment.
Additionally, let us embody the spirit of peacemaking in our interactions with others, seeking reconciliation and unity whenever possible. However, holding fast to the delicate balance of never compromising on the foundational truths of our faith, even if it means facing opposition or discomfort.
As we reflect on Martin Luther's quote, "Peace if Possible, Truth at all Costs," may we be inspired to pursue both peace and truth in our lives, knowing that true peace is found in the unchanging truth of God's word. Let us stand firm in our faith, boldly proclaiming the gospel message and living lives that honor and glorify our Heavenly Father.
In closing, I encourage you to embrace these words of Martin Luther as a guiding principle in your walk with Christ. May we be women who embody grace as we walk out living lives that show God's perfect peace and divine truth, shining brightly as beacons of His love and light in a world in need of hope and healing.
